Sun, 13 August 2006 (20:30) There was an extra week between episodes due to an escape to the beaches of my boyhood, and from there I have brought back the requisite ruminations, as well as a penchant for profuse alliteration. While it's interesting to hear folks talk about where they're from, there's something alluring in their recollections of when they're from. When we recall the times we grew up in, we find that a fondness emerges, an unconscious affection spills out of our memory, a fondness not just for the times gone by, but also for the people we used to be way back when. Music in this episode is from the Podsafe Music Network, and featured: Thanks for listening, and please remember you can subscribe to The Membrane on iTunes. Comments[1] |
Steve,
Well done!
I'm from when my dad told my mom that even though some of the men he served with in WWII were being called back to serve during the Korean War, he was sure he was to old. He would have been 37. I wish I was 37 again but no one gets back two days let alone two decades.
I'm from when 10 year old boys could actully clime into the cabs of the giant steam engines at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Mich. I'm from when Nixon debated Kennedy on TV. I must have watched 30 seconds of it. I'm from when 13 year old boys from Tustin could ride bikes down Redhill Ave to Corona Del Mar. I was reminded by your podcast of long days on the sand at Newport Beach and arriving home from Columbus Tustin Jr. High and having my chest hurt so bad from the smog that all I could do was lay down and rest until it got cool near dusk to go out again.
Thanks again, I really enjoyed it.
